Moscow: Russia and China are currently engaged in joint naval war games, as reported by Moscow's defense ministry. The exercises, taking place in the Pacific Ocean, involve coordinated maritime patrols, rescue training, and drills to counter air strikes.

The joint effort showcases the collaboration between the two nations, with footage released by the Russian state news agency TASS revealing a formation of nine warships sailing in a diamond pattern, crew members standing at attention on deck.

The drills encompass various maneuvers, including the refueling of ships and the transfer of cargo while in motion. The joint fleet has covered a distance of over 6,400 nautical miles since the commencement of the exercises. Activities have ranged from anti-submarine exercises to repelling simulated air strikes by adversaries, as well as honing skills related to helicopter takeoffs and landings on warship decks.

The statement from the defense ministry disclosed that the joint operation is being conducted in the waters of the East China Sea, featuring a combined fleet from the Russian Navy and China's People's Liberation Army Navy. Notably, the exercises are not targeted at any third party and are not linked to the prevailing international or regional circumstances.

The burgeoning relationship between Russia and China has seen increased military collaboration, particularly as Moscow's ties with Western governments have strained due to the prolonged conflict in Ukraine. Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu recently attended the 11th Moscow Conference on International Security, advocating for intensified military cooperation.

This joint naval display follows a series of bilateral efforts, including a shared air patrol over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea in July. However, these coordinated demonstrations have raised concerns within the region, with South Korea deploying fighter jets in response to the July air patrol as a precautionary measure.
